Minifest 2012: Callout

On 4th-11th August, Inky Fingers will be putting on its second Minifest – six days of spoken word performances, workshops, and other word-related wonders. Last year was a crazy and beautiful whirlwind of writerly stuff – from a doubles poetry slam (in tennis whites), to a group of writers shut in a room together for 36 hours, to multimedia shows, to lunchtime poetry readings – it was diverse and full of exciting new things, with big and welcoming audiences. And we are very, very excited to be doing it again!

We are looking for proposals from writers and performers – whether you’d like to do a reading, run a slam, bring people together to create something during the week, share your skills, tell us your stories, or do something that we had never dreamed of – we want you to hear from you! We would like to host a mixture both local performers and those from further afield, and to create a varied programme which is accessible, inclusive and interactive, as well as daring and exciting.

This is an excellent opportunity to perform during Edinburgh’s most effervescent month. If you have an as-yet-unrealised idea for a performance for event, we can offer you logistical support and a friendly crowd; if you already have a show in the Fringe, this is a great chance to promote it to a wider audience. All the events will be free, but we do have a modest budget to support our performers; please include in your proposal a simple budget for travel, fees and technical requirements. If you’ll need accommodation on the day(s) you perform, we will be able to provide it.

We are expecting more proposals than we can cram into six days, so please be aware that we’re going to have to say no to some – probably including ones that we’d really like to see done.

So! Send us your proposals, by Midday on Sunday 10th June, to inkyfingersedinburgh@gmail.com. Please keep them below about 700 words, and give us a good idea of: who you are, what you would like to do (including length and technical requirements), your experience, and what you would need. Please also let us know if it has been performed elsewhere, or will be on somewhere else during the festival.

Inky Fingers is a series of events in Edinburgh for people who love words. We believe in throwing words wide open: we want everyone to be able to create with language and share their work. We care about supporting and encouraging writers and spoken word performers, creative experimentation, building communities of writers working together to create, and putting on fantastic events that celebrate language. It’s run collectively by a group of volunteers; through the year we run open mics, workshops and special events aimed at cultivating the grassroots of the spoken word scene and showcasing its growing talent.
