Workshop for Transgender Day of Remembrance
20th November, 11am – 2.30pm
City Art Centre
Inky Fingers will be running a workshop for the Scottish Transgender Alliance (STA) on 20th November, from 11am – 2.30pm. It will be part of the Transgender Day of Rememberance, an annual event to remember those people who have died due to anti-transgender hatred or prejudice (http://www.transgenderdor.org/about-2).
The workshop will be a chance for both trans* people and their allies to create something in celebration of trans* lives , to challenge hatred, and to express what the Day of Rememberance means to them. The group will be guided through some activities and discussions to create their own pieces: we will be using resources from the STA as well as our own stories and responses to create poems with ‘found’ elements (words and phrases taken from other writing), which can take the form of performance pieces, collages, or written words. People of any level of writing ability and knowledge of trans* issues are welcome; the workshop will be relaxed, informal and inclusive. We are aiming to make this a safe space, so respect is the main criteria for participating.
Participants will have the chance (if they would like to) to read their pieces (or to have someone else read them) at the rememberance service at St Augustine’s Church on Saturday 24th November at 7pm.
Booking is preferable so that we can plan for number of attendees. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org
