SPEAKeasy Performers’ Group Forest Cafe
What It Is.
The SPEAKeasy Performers’ Group meets every month, similar to the READeasy Writers’ Group, at the Forest Café. It’s a group for writers of every kind from all levels of experience to polish their (existing or just hatching) performance skills in a supportive group of peers. We take poets, story-writers, novelists, playwrights, experimenters and everything else, and we don’t care whether you’ve never performed before or have been doing it for years. It is a special (and free) opportunity to try different ways of putting your words across in the most effective way possible while on a stage.
How We Work.
- Every two months, a group of writers meet in a cosy café to develop their performance skills. Each member emails in advance to sign up (so it’s a different group every time). We will provide pieces to perform – so no need to bring your own work, and will learn some basic performance, voice, and mic skills – and polish the ones we may already have. All skill levels and degrees of experience are more than welcome. We learn from each other.
- To attend a session, just drop us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org in advance of the next date.
- Come along, and we will try out some different approaches to performing and chat about how to develop our voice and performance skills. (Let us know if you’re not going to be able to attend, so that we can make your space available to someone else.) Bring a notepad! Bring questions! Bring your wonderful mind!
- The discussion is really informal, so don’t feel you have to be an authority on performance criticism, or, well, on anything.
