Inky Fingers Open Mic
November 4th, 8pm
Forest Café, Lauriston Place
As always, the Open Mic is on during the first tuesday of the month between 8-11 pm. It’s free to come and free for anyone to perform, regardless of style, experience, or identity.
We want to hear from YOU. We want your poems, your rants, your ballads, your short stories, your diaries, your experimental texts, your heart, your mind, your body. We want the essay on your summer holidays you wrote when you were four, your adolescent haiku, and extracts from your eventually-to-be-completed epic fantasy quadrilogy. We want to hear your best new work as well. And we want people to care about the way words are performed.
We are very excited to announce that this month’s feature is spoken word poet and Scottish Slam Champion 2013, Carly Brown.
Carly Brown is an American writer based in Scotland. In 2013, she won the Scottish National Championships of Slam Poetry and placed 4th at the World Series of Slam Poetry. She performs regularly in the UK and in the US. In Edinburgh, she has been featured by The Scottish Storytelling Center, Rally and Broad and Loud Poets. In St Andrews, she has performed at two TedX conferences, a St Andrews University graduation dinner and various events hosted by Inklight, St Andrews’ Creative Writing Society. She also read at StAnza, Scotland’s International Poetry Festival. Her children’s book, I Love St Andrews’, will be released in March 2015.
Open Mic slots are five minutes long; e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org to sign up and be sure of a slot. Get there for 7.30 and have a chat with the people at the café to find the Inky organisers. We’ll see you there!
